Three Pillars of Freedom by Jason John

It took me uncountable nights of insomnia filled with unreasonable thoughts and good scotch – but I finally understood the key to Freedom. Not that it is easier to reach today then it was before I fell asleep, yet it feels closer than it ever was. After all, Freedom is simply a state that one reaches through the liberation of all restraints.  Analyzing life through three generations, I came to the conclusion that there aren’t many chains that keep us locked away in our daily jail that is routine. In fact, I came up with three conditions that I like to call the pillars of freedom.

1. First form of slavery: Money. We all hate to admit it, but money does matter. Our personal dreams may vary, some may cost more then others but in the end they all have a price tag that prevent us from quitting this 8 to 4 steady yet boring job that pays a decent wage. Piling up, wishing one day to reach financial independence. Which brings us to…

2. Second condition to liberty: Time. Most of you go to school merely everyday and work this part time job hoping it leads to this decent 8 to 4 job that one day will give you enough money to retire and enjoy the few years that are left in the hourglass. So, illustrating this idea on a timeline: We sit in school from the age of 5 to the mid 20s, where we begin our promising careers until 55-60 (that is if our retirement plan is good enough). But let’s rejoice, we may be lucky enough to taste some form of freedom in the last 15-20 years of our lives…if the last restraint doesn’t kick in too early.

3. Third pillar to freedom: Health. Sadly enough we drain all our energy chasing those dollar bills that could eventually be used as tickets to personal dreams. Time will pass by like a bullet and all that will remain, once we finally build those two pillars, is age pressing hard on our shoulders. My grandmother, probably one of your grand parents too, took 70 years to reach the last step of deliverance…

That’s before Alzheimer’s did its work, and all of a sudden, the only pillar (Health) she could ever afford crumbled down before she could even realize it. Today she is confined in a retirement home away from any possibilities. With Time, Money and Health well behind her.

Love you Grandma,
